Further World Records on CONICA Track in Ostrava

The 21-year-old Dayron Robles set a new World record in the men’s 110 m Hurdles at yesterday’s Golden Spike Grand Prix Meeting in Ostrava.

Running 0.01 seconds faster, Robles broke the previous best of 12.88 of the Chinese Liu Xiang, set on our CONIPUR M track in Lausanne on 11 July 2006. The young Cuban was amazing 34 hundreds of a second faster than the runner-up Terrence Trammel who finished the race in 13.21.

Last year, Haile Gebrselassie broke the world record for the one hour run. This year, it was his compatriot Dire Tune who set a new world best. The Ethiopian athlete covered 18,517 m in 60 minutes - 177 m more than her female colleague Tegla Loroupe 10 years ago. In April, the 22-year-old Tune won the Boston Marathon.

A further highlight was the men’s 200 meters which Jamaican Usain Bolt won with the fastest time this year (19.83).

The Ostrava athletic meeting in the Czech Republic is part of the IAAF World Athletics Tour 2008 and is held on the CONICA track which is IAAF Class 2 certified. One of our Czech partners installed our CONIPUR SW system in 2003. The impermeable system is used for top class track and field sports and meets all important international standards, e.g. IAAF Specification, EN 14877, DIN V 18035-6 and ASTM F 2157-02.

“The track properties contributed to the fantastic performances of the athletes!” proudly announces Pavel Mares, CONICA Sports Sales Manager in Czech Republic and Slovakia for many years.
Mares continues: “On the one hand, our track system ensured a world record in a short distance discipline, on the other hand, at the same time, it made a long distance world record possible. This fact makes our CONIPUR SW system very attractive and special!”
