World Record and Four World Season’s Best in the Zurich Letzigrund Stadium 

Last Friday evening, the athletes showed top performances in the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich - Isinbajewa even crowned the evening with a world record!
„Such top performances are not natural following directly after the world championships. After such a big and important competition, the athletes are often tired and feel drained“, explains Karl Meyer, Director at CONICA sports surfaces at BASF.

The Russian pole vaulter Jelena Isinbajewa inspired the spectators with a new world record at the sold out Weltklasse Golden League Meeting. The 27-year-old vaulted the new world record level of 5,06 directly at the first attempt.
The Ethiopian double world champion from Berlin, Kenenisa Bekele, set with a time of 12:52,32 a sensational world season’s best in the 5000m.
World Champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton confirmed her gold medal won in Berlin setting a world seasonal best mark of 12,46. In the 100m hurdles, the 34-year-old Jamaican ran the fastest time for two years. Sanya Richards from the US also achieved in the 400m a new world season’s best with 48,94.
Norwegian Andreas Thorkildsen managed an outstanding performance. The Olympic, World and European Champion threw his javelin soaring to an incredible world leading 91,28m.

This confirms again that we are on the right way concerning the development and optimisation of our sports surfacing systems under the brand CONICA and CONIPUR”, says Meyer proudly.

The three-layer, full PUR, solid plastic surfacing system is considered one of the fastest of its kind. The topmost layer is relatively hard, but still elastic. It provides optimal return of energy to the athletes. This leads to top performances either with sprinters or long-distance runners. The two lower layers are soft and provide the necessary shock absorption, athletes’ joints are spared and injuries prevented.

A track with the same technical properties was installed with CONICA products at the Berliner Olympic Stadium. Recently, Usain Bolt ran on the blue top class surface - the trademark of Berlin – two fabulous world records in the 100m (9.58) and in the 200m (19.19) and made history in athletics!
